This diamond has the visibility of a square cut diamond, but it has four long sides and four short sides. It looks almost like an emerald shape diamond with its four corners. When viewed from the top this diamond has 2 squares at a 45 degree angle to one another, which forms the table.
The idea behind this cut was to maximise the brilliance regardless of weight loss, and the loss is slightly greater than it is for the ideal round cut diamond. The square shape has 61 facets compared to 58 for a round cut. The cut retains about 45 percent of the original weight compared to 47 – 48 percent for an ideal round cut diamond.
