This particular diamond is known as the Tabiz diamond in the Western world and known as the Taveez in the East. The Tabiz diamond is flat and triangular in shape with little to no girdle, all of the weight is spread out and the stone appears much larger than its actual weight.  There are no set number of facets, the more facets there are, the better the stone catches the light.  The Tabiz is faceted on both sides, which is unusual for a diamond.  It gives it the ability to be very flat, creating a “watery” appearance.  The stones are “drilled” like a bead, which best suits necklaces and earrings.

A horizontal shaped baguette diamond with square corners is called a Baguillion cut diamond which is generally 4.5mm to 5mm long. It is primarily used for engagement rings.  The Baguillion cut diamond achieves good sells in the market place around the weight range of 1.25 to 1.50 carats, but the best sellers are in the 1.75 – 2.0 carats weight range. There are not a lot of Baguillions Diamonds in the marketplace, because they are made from the heavier of the Baguette roughs. As the Baguillion Diamond is essentially used as a side stone matching is a problem so the market demand is low.
